Christmas Fun Shoot
On Sunday 18th December we had our Christmas Shoot at Yeovil Collage Sports hall. Everyone entered into the spirit of the season and wore silly hats. We all brought a gift and put it into Santa's sack.
This year Christmas game was 'Pontoon', we had to shoot 3 arrows and try to get 21. Then you change partners until you have shot with everyone. The person with the most wins has first dip into Sant'a sack. Then down the list until everyone has a gift.
An enjoyable evening was had by all.
Our thanks go to Dave Furby for scoring and Pete for organizing the event.

Social & Skittle Evening.
November 2011 People started arriving at Johnson Park Club House at 7.30pm for 8pm start. We first had a game of ‘Killer Skittles’ which was very exciting up until the end. Then we gave out the Classification Badges. At 9pm we had the buffet in the bar area (with a great spread of food). After the buffet another game of ‘killer’ which lasted quite as long. I came away thinking that it was a good night and everybody enjoyed it. David Marden ------------------------------
SCAA Interclub September 2011 When our team arrived, we were greeted warmly by Doug Human and co. (the organisers) and set up our kit. The pleasantries continued as others arrived, and the air of good humour held sway throughout the day. There were new recruits and veterans alike, some skilled, some not so much (guess which I am!), and we were all mixed in together, but not out of earshot of our teams. Well, actually, we longbowmen were kept together. It was a bright, sunny day, so the targets were highly visible, but there was a lot of glare, and it was exceptionally windy. My joy of managing to compensate for the wind was short-lived, however, as the gusts came and went, and changed direction, often mid-flight. My arrows were literally flying sideways! As a Western is twice as long as a Warwick, I was hoping to get twice my Warwick score, which, needless to say, didn’t happen! The rain came just in time for the awards, so we all got soaked, but overall it was a fun day. Our team might not come last next time if we have some more people interested in going (you know, so we don’t have a longbowman instead of a compound archer!). Brett Johnson

Somerset Youth Volunteering Network
Revolution festival 10/11 (Montacute House We as a club where asked to attend this festival as one of the activity for the volunteers to enjoy after their day of work on other National Trust sites in Somerset. Other activities they could do where:- Circus Skills, Clay Pigeon shooting, Croquet, Tree Climbing, Grass boarding & many other things. After setting up in the grounds of Montacute House Parkland, we had a slow start with our ‘Have a Go’ Archery session as most of the young people and the leaders where off site. Eventually the youngsters (Aged between 16 and 25) arrived and things picked up. Each young person appeared to me to enjoy there shooting experience and most of them where getting good groups of arrows on the target. ------------------------------
Fun Shoot 2010 Arriving at the site we discovered various targets had been erected all scattered around the field. We where all asked to bring a Recurve or Bare Bow each. (No Compound allowed) Before we started, we where all given a set of 3 arrows for this shoot. First off was a 2 way clout shoot (not full size I am glad to say). Arrows both near & far stuck in the ground (It always reminds me of Agincourt). After 3 ends we went on to shoot the Field section. Splitting into small groups we each shot at different 3D Targets or pictures then when we had all shot and it was safe we scored, collected our arrows and moved on to the next target. After dinner we had a go at a form of Archery Golf using the targets as the putting green (Great fun was had by all). This was followed by target shooting 3 different distances depending on age & gender. Nothing was normal about this shoot as we all had Recurve bows most people used them as bare bows (no sights) and nothing was formally measured. By the end of the day everyone was in need of refreshments the BBQ was on and everyone enjoyed the food. Following the BBQ some of the parents/friends had a go at Archery I think we have some more people for the next beginners course. This was then followed by the awards being presented. Everyone enjoyed the day, even though we had not shot the arrows before. It did bring us all to a level playing field. I would like to thank all concerned who worked hard before or during the shoot. e.g. Set up the targets, Laid out the course or cooked the BBQ etc. Without your help days like this would not happen. |
